General

Are the insurances that 2 Cheap Cars offer compulsory?
All insurances are optional. However if you are purchasing your car on finance, MVI (full cover motor vehicle insurance)  is compulsory. Customers still have the choice to pick their own motor vehicle insurance company. While these products are not compulsory we highly recommend you look at the benefits they have to offer.

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI):

Why do I need Mechanical Breakdown Insurance?

Modern motor vehicles are becoming more and more complex every day and with complexity comes more and more costs to repair in the event of a failure.

Unlike your normal comprehensive insurance that covers you for theft or accident damage, Mechanical Breakdown Insurance protects you from these unexpected costs of sudden and unforeseen mechanical and electrical breakdowns.

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance also provides you with extra peace of mind with roadside assistance, vehicle recovery, accommodation allowances for out of town breakdowns and rental car facilities under certain circumstances.

What does my mechanical breakdown insurance cover?
You are covered for the reasonable costs of repairing or replacing the actual broken down mechanical or electrical components due to a sudden and unforeseen happening during normal use, along with added benefits such as 24/7 Roadside assistance, out of town accommodation, rental vehicle and alternative transport allowances.
Can I cancel my Mechanical Breakdown Insurance?
You will need to send Quest insurance in writing within 14 days from the date of purchase, we will refund any premiums you have paid to us provided you have not made a claim under the policy.
Do I need to get my vehicle serviced?

Yes, regular servicing can help to identify potential problems before they become real ones and provides peace of mind that your vehicle is in a safe and road-worthy condition.

Regular servicing can also save you money at the petrol pump. New oil and air filters make for a smoother running engine and a more fuel-efficient car, while addressing issues such as under inflated tyres will reduce rolling resistance and improve fuel economy and extend tyre life.

Furthermore, not servicing your car increases your chances of suffering the inconvenience of a breakdown becoming reliant on hire cars or public transport whilst your vehicle is being fixed.

Regularly servicing your car will also undoubtedly improve the life span of the vehicle and helps maintain the value of your expensive assets for years to come.

All vehicles must be serviced by an AA approved or MTA Registered workshop every 10,000 kilometres or in accordance to the manufacturer’s specifications or every 12 months, whichever occurs first. You will find your minimum service requirements in your Quest Insurance policy booklet.

What is a MTA workshop?
MTA is an organization that most repairers belong to. They stand by the work they do, and the repairs they carry out. They are throughout New Zealand. Always check that the repairer you choose is a MTA workshop. https://www.mta.org.nz/
How do I lodge a mechanical breakdown claim?

If your vehicle has a mechanical or electrical issue you believe may entitles you to make a claim under your policy and the vehicle can be driven without causing further damage, you should take it to your nearest approved repairer.

You should hand your policy booklet to the approved repairer and ask the service manager to contact Quest for permission to proceed to diagnose the issue.

Some dismantling may be required to diagnose the issue which you will need to authorise until such time as a claim is accepted and approved by Quest, whereby Quest will then cover the diagnostic costs.

Please note, Quest Insurance cannot pay for any work performed on your vehicle without our prior approval.

If the vehicle cannot be driven safely, contact Quest Roadside Service Team who are available 24 Hours a day 7 days a week. The team will dispatch assistance to attempt to diagnose and repair the breakdown on the side of the road and if necessary, arrange a tow to the nearest approved service facility.

Can I service my vehicle myself?
No. The servicing must be done by an approved independent service agent as copies of the service invoices will be required in the event of a claim.
