"The first generation of the new D:5 platform, the Delica is a notably safe and versatile vehicle, and more compact than you may think. Get the 2.4 litre version, and check that the CVT oil has been changed at around 90,000kms if buying a higher mileage example. Don't touch the diesel version. Ensure there's no rust in the seams and underbody, and the rear suspension bushes are in good nick. (That's a weak spot, but it's worth it for the amazingly solid and reassuring ride!) The seats are phenomenally comfortable, and there are a surprising amount of mod cons on board - look for the models that have auto-open and -close on both sliding doors and the boot, it's super helpful with kids and groceries. Make sure to park on a slope and check the doors all actuate properly without assistance. The parking cameras are also super helpful and well-implemented, but the Mitsubishi Multi Communication System (Japanese head unit) cannot be converted (aftermarket mod) to English without losing the camera features. So be aware if you can't read Japanese, you're up for a head unit that will cost a bit, and the installation will need to be done by a professional, as the whole thing is pretty integrated. The end result will be super slick though, and add value to the vehicle too. "Like most similar imports you have to not be bothered by some small quirks that it will have such as language on multimedia display, but the delica is an excellent vehicle for a family to couples who like to have plenty of space for sporting equipment and/or camping (this was our situation).
